Coffee Growing in the Hilo District of the Big Island of Hawaii
More than five acres of coffee are being cultivated in Mountain View near Hilo at the site of the Hilo Coffee Mill.
The site is set on 24 acres and includes tea fields, processing and roasting areas, a store, coffee and tea tasting at the Latte Da Bar, and even freshly prepared food and a full menu of specialty coffee drinks, milk shakes, ice cream, and breakfast and lunch items – and a nice lanai for relaxing.
A popular Farmer’s Market takes place at the Hilo Coffee Mill every Saturday from 7am to 1pm and features agricultural products of the Puna district (e.g., fruits vegetables, flowers) and gourmet coffees from the many family owned and operated coffee farms not only in Hilo but also in Puna, Hamakua, Kau and Kona. An outdoor griddle at the Market provides tasty breakfasts.
Hilo Coffee Mill is located between Mile Markers 12 and 13 on the Volcano Highway. If you are heading toward Hawaii Volcanoes National Park from Hilo then the Hilo Coffee Mill is on the left at 17-995 Volcano Highway. The store is open from Monday through Saturday from 7 am to 4 pm.
